S.K.C Surat & Co Ltd has been for more than fifty years the trusted partner of Mauritians for fresh fruits and vegetables. Our wide network of local and foreign growers guarantees a wide range of products all year round and allows us to have a consistent supply of quality produce. Our diversified network of clients including wholesalers, Fair Markets & Bazaars, hotels and supermarkets means that we cover the whole island. Our state-of-the-art packing, processing and cold storage facilities guarantee the freshness and safety of our products. Our collective skills and experience in the industry guarantees that we get the best possible price and quality that is passed on to our clients. We are HACCP certified; this is another indication on how far we will go to guarantee our clients the best products on their plates every day. We are a socially responsible company and we are driven by our mission that is: contributes to a healthy Mauritius by availing to Mauritians products of the best quality at an affordable price.

It all started in the late 50’s when the founder and the patriarch, late Sooklall Surat started the retail of imported fruits and vegetables. He was joined in the family business by his son Shyam Surat who is the current chairman of the company. Under Shyam’s leadership the group has evolved from those modest origins to develop into a business employing over 400 people and churning an annual turnover in excess of MUR 1.5 Billion. Key milestones reached during this journey were:
➢ 1960’s: Implementation of a distribution network around the island
➢ 1970’s: Import of fruits and first cold room built
➢ 1980’s: Further investment in storage facilities and logistics. Business incorporated as S.K.C Surat & Co Ltd in 1985
➢ 1990’s: Import from South Africa following abolition of trade restrictions. Regional expansion in Reunion Island with the opening of SKC Fruits Reunion SARL.
➢ 1992: Opening of office in Cape Town South Africa (Ultimate Fruit International PTY Ltd)
➢ The 21st century saw further expansion and acquisition of new resources. A whole range of new projects materialised:
• Agreement reached with Reunion farmers for regular exchange with their Mauritian
counterparts and capacity building towards fields and crops management.
• Opening of our new distribution centre at Wooton.
• The company invested upstream in greenhouses, the first crops were harvested early 2014.
• The company became HACCP certified in 2014.
• 2017 - GAP/ SKC Safer – Materialisation for the local production of Fruits and Vegetables using good Agricultural Practice i.e - controlled pesticide by SKC Surat & Co Ltd pool of 75 Farmers.
